The door is louder than it used to be
Noise is the cheapest early warning a garage door gives you. Dry or worn rollers, loose hinges, a bearing plate starting to go, or a chain that has stretched. All of them are small jobs now and larger ones later.
The door opens part way and stops
Either the opener is hitting a force limit because something is binding, or a roller is catching on a bent section of track. Do not keep pressing the button, because every cycle bends more track.
The door reverses as soon as it touches the floor
Usually the down force or travel limit on the opener, sometimes a floor that has lifted, sometimes a damaged bottom seal. It is an adjustment and a test, not a new opener.
The door shakes or jerks on the way up
Uneven spring tension or a cable spooling badly on its drum. The door is out of balance, which puts the load onto the opener instead of the springs.
Something hit the door and a section is dented
If the door still runs, stop using it until it is looked at. A bent section pushes the rollers out of line and the damage spreads to the track and the hinges.
The remote works but the wall button does not, or the other way round
That splits the fault cleanly between the logic board, the wiring run and the buttons themselves, and it usually means the fix is a small one.
How a repair visit actually runs
The technician runs the door under power once to see the fault, then disconnects the opener and works the door by hand. A balanced door holds its position at waist height and moves with one hand. A door that drops or fights back has a spring problem, whatever the opener is doing.
From there it is a check of the cables on their drums, the rollers in the tracks, the hinges and end bearings, the track alignment against the wall, and the safety sensors at floor level. You are shown the part that failed before anything is replaced, and you get the price before the work starts.

Do you repair every brand of opener?

Is it worth repairing an old door?
Often yes. Springs, cables, rollers and openers are all serviceable parts. Where the sections themselves are rusted through or badly bent, we will say that a replacement door is the more sensible route.
