An emergency garage door call is usually one of four things: a broken spring, a cable off the drum, a door off its track, or an opener that has failed with the door in the wrong position. All four are fixable. None of them should be forced by hand, because the weight of a residential door is held by parts that are under load even when the door looks still.

The door will not close and the opener light blinks
This is almost always the safety sensors. The two small eyes near the floor have lost alignment, the lens is dirty, or a wire has been pulled. Do not tape the sensors over or hold the wall button down to force the door shut with a car or a person underneath. Call us and we will realign, clean or replace the pair and test the reverse.
There was a loud bang and now the door will not lift
That sound is a torsion spring breaking. The opener alone cannot lift a residential door without the spring taking the weight, so the door is now effectively a very heavy panel. Leave it down, do not pull the emergency release with the door part way up, and keep vehicles out from under it. This is same day work for us.
The door is crooked, jammed at an angle, or hanging
A cable has come off a drum or a roller has left the track. The door is now unbalanced and can drop. Stop using the opener immediately, because every extra cycle bends more track. Park outside the bay and call.
The opener runs but the door does not move
The trolley has disconnected from the carriage, a gear set has stripped, or the chain or belt has come off. The motor sounding healthy is not proof the drive is intact. We will open the head unit and tell you which of the three it is before any part is replaced.
A car or an object hit the door
Impact damage bends track and section edges even when the panel looks fine from a distance. Our first job is to make the opening secure so the property is closed overnight, then quote the repair or the panel replacement in daylight.
The door is open and I cannot leave it that way
Say so when you call. Securing the opening is the first thing we do on any emergency visit. If the full repair needs a part that has to come from a supplier, we still close and secure the door before we leave.
What happens when you call at 2am
You speak to someone about the actual door, not a queue. We ask what the door is doing, what you heard, whether a vehicle is trapped, and where in San Diego County you are. That is enough to know which parts belong on the truck.
We give you an arrival window before we hang up. If the job needs a part that no one carries at that hour, we say so on the phone rather than on your driveway, and we still come out to secure the opening.

What to do before we get there
Stop cycling the door. Every extra attempt with a broken spring or a derailed roller does more damage than the original fault, and it turns a part swap into a track and section job.
Do not pull the red emergency release cord while the door is part way up. With a broken spring there is nothing holding the weight and the door can come down fast. If the door is already down, leave it down.
Two minutes of prevention:
- Move people, pets and vehicles out from under the door
- Unplug the opener if the motor is running with nothing moving
- Do not remove a cable, a bracket or a spring bolt yourself
- Take a photo of the broken part and text it to us if you can
